Basically,6/6/6 Profile, what should I do?

Body

Hey folks,

I'm seeking some guidance about whether preparing for CAT is genuinely worth it for someone like me. Here's my complete profile:
10th : 67.24%
12th: 68.8%
Graduation (BBA): 6.42 CGPA
I've decided to dedicate myself fully to preparing for further education, ideally an MBA. I know my academic profile isn't very strong (basically a 6/6/6), and I don't expect IIM-A/B/C calls even with a high CAT percentile. But I'm still considering giving CAT 2025 seriously and aiming for at least Tier 2 colleges, what do you think, will I get in?Is it worth it? Any advice is appreciated.ย

I had a very similar profile, my 10th and 12th were both under 70%, and my grad CGPA was around 6.7 too. I scored 97.3 percentile in CAT and ended up at IMT Ghaziabad. So yes, it's definitely possible to get into good Tier 2 colleges with your profile. But hereโ€™s the key: youโ€™ll have to really shine in your CAT score and personal interview. Your academic profile may stop you from getting into IIM A/B/C, but B-schools like IMT, TAPMI, KJ Somaiya, GIM, and even new IIMs (like Nagpur or Jammu) still value a well-rounded applicant. Focus hard on your prep and maybe also work on improving your profile through certifications or internships in parallel.ย

Your profile might not be the most traditional, but MBA admissions arenโ€™t just about marks. Iโ€™m in the same boat, below 70s in 10th and 12th, and Iโ€™m not expecting old IIM calls either. But Tier 2 colleges donโ€™t filter too hard on past academics, especially if you have work experience and a decent CAT score. If you're serious, go all in. Build a story around your journey, use your work ex as a strength in interviews, and donโ€™t underestimate the new IIMs or colleges like FORE, Great Lakes, or BIMTECH. They may not have the โ€˜IIMโ€™ brand, but they open great career opportunities if youโ€™re proactive.

Your self-awareness is commendable. You know IIM-A/B/C might be a stretch with the academic profile, but youโ€™re not letting that stop you. Thatโ€™s the mindset needed for this journey. I had a 65% in 12th and a low 7 in graduation, but I cracked 96.8 percentile and converted KJ Somaiya and TAPMI. The interviews focused heavily on my work experience and my clarity on why MBA. Make sure you work on your soft skills too, because that's where many with low acads redeem themselves in the PI round.

Donโ€™t write yourself off just because of past numbers. The academic profile might seem like a barrier, but your future actions speak louder. Many colleges care more about your work ex, CAT score, and how you perform in interviews. Tier 2 B-schools (and some new IIMs) are very much within reach if you hit a 95+ percentile and have a coherent story about why you want to do an MBA. One tip: prepare a very strong SOP and resume, and even consider XAT or SNAP if youโ€™re open to other top colleges like XLRI or SIBM Pune.
