Big Shift: IIFT Decouples Placement Process Across Campuses

Body

IIFT has officially announced a move toward a decentralized placement process to resolve structural inefficiencies and reduce inter-campus rivalry. Under the new guidelines, each campus will now independently manage its own placement activities, with Centre Heads fully empowered and responsible for the results of their respective students.

The Delhi and Kolkata campuses, due to their established status, will operate independently while staying aligned with the institution’s broader goals. Meanwhile, the newer GIFT City and Kakinada centers will also manage their own processes, supported by structured guidance and monitoring for the next five years as they build toward full autonomy. To support this, every campus has been granted a separate budget for marketing and placement efforts, and Campus Heads now have the authority to appoint dedicated placement faculty coordinators. This could be a major turning point for current converts and those on the waitlist.

Does this mean the 'IIFT' tag is no longer unified? If I’m joining Kakinada, I need to know that my placement support is as strong as Delhi’s. The five-year guidance roadmap is a good start, but it’s going to be a tough transition for the next few batches

I’m looking at this from a recruiter’s angle—it actually simplifies things. Instead of one massive, chaotic process, companies can now target specific campuses based on the specialized talent they need. This might actually lead to better placement outcomes for everyone

Decentralization is a double-edged sword. While it fixes the rivalry issue, Delhi and Kolkata are the ones with the decades-old alumni base. I wonder if the recruiters will eventually view the campuses as four completely different entities now.

This is huge for the newer campuses. Giving GIFT City and Kakinada their own budgets and autonomy is the only way they’ll ever build a distinct brand identity. It was always unfair to hold them to the same rigid structure as Delhi
