How to Crack SNAP from a Non-Math's Background

Body

Preparing for the SNAP exam can feel intimidating, especially if you don’t come from a maths-heavy background. Many aspirants worry about the Quantitative, Data Interpretation, and Data Sufficiency (QDID) section and assume it will hold them back.

But here’s the good news: SNAP is not a maths exam. It’s a speed + logic + accuracy exam. With the right strategy, even non-maths students can score 95-98 percentile and above by leveraging their strengths in English and Logical Reasoning, while adopting a smart approach to Quant.

I. Exam Awareness (Clarity First)

  • Know the structure: 3 sections - General English, Quant + DI + DS, Logical Reasoning

  • Understand the timing: 60 minutes only, so speed & accuracy are crucial

  • Marking scheme: +1 for correct, -0.25 for wrong -- accuracy matters more than attempts

II. Subject-Wise Preparation (Skill Buckets)

A. Quantitative, DI & DS (Your Challenge Zone)

  • Focus only on high-frequency topics: Percentages, Ratios, Averages, Profit & Loss, TSD, SI/CI

  • Prioritize Data Interpretation & Data Sufficiency (logic-based, less maths)

  • Use approximation & elimination to avoid long calculations

B. Logical Reasoning (Your Strength Zone)

  • Topics: Arrangements, Puzzles, Series, Blood Relations, Directions, Critical Reasoning

  • Practice visual solving & option elimination for speed

  • This section is often the highest scoring for non-maths students

C. General English (Your Backup Scorer)

  • Vocabulary - Flashcards, root words, synonyms/antonyms

  • Grammar - Error spotting, sentence correction

  • Reading Comprehension - Focus on tone, main idea, direct questions (SNAP RCs are short & straightforward)

III. Preparation Resources (Tools You Need)

  • Books: Arun Sharma (Quant & DI), RS Aggarwal (Reasoning), Word Power Made Easy (Vocab)

  • Mocks: IMS, TIME, 2IIM for sectional & full-length practice

  • Apps/Online Tools: Magoosh, Oliveboard for daily quizzes

IV. Practice & Testing (Execution Matters)

  • Do daily sectional practice (30-45 mins per weak area)

  • Take weekly mocks initially, then bi-weekly closer to the exam

  • Always analyze mistakes: Which questions took too long? Which errors repeat?

V. Strategy & Exam-Day Gameplan (The Final Push)

  • Time allocation: 20 min (English) + 20 min (LR) + 20 min (Quant/DI)

  • Selection rule: Attempt easy-first, skip time-drainers

  • Target attempts: 35-40 with 85-90% accuracy for a 97+ percentile

  • Stay calm and focused - SNAP rewards composure as much as preparation
