Hey everyone, I need some help deciding, IIM Kozhikode or IIM Calcutta, which one is better?

Another factor to consider is location and climate. IIM Calcutta’s weather and infrastructure have their own charm, but it's also prone to flooding and the campus is older. IIM Kozhikode, on the other hand, has one of the most beautiful campuses, green, clean, and relatively newer infrastructure. It may sound minor, but your environment really impacts your 2 years. Also, Calcutta is more accessible for companies due to proximity to the city, while Kozhikode is slightly more remote.

I have interacted with seniors from both campuses, and here’s my take. IIM K has a more inclusive and scenic campus culture, located on a hilltop in Kerala, the vibe is beautiful and less intense compared to IIM C. The student culture at IIM Kozhikode is known to be more collaborative, whereas IIM Calcutta is a bit more competitive and fast-paced. If mental health, peer support, and work-life balance are important to you, IIM K might appeal more.

I am from a non-engineering background, and I have found IIM Kozhikode to be more welcoming in terms of diversity and classroom inclusivity. They have really pushed for more gender and academic diversity in recent years. IIM Calcutta, while top-notch, still has a very quant-heavy reputation. If you are not confident in math-heavy curriculum or want a slightly more balanced academic rigor, IIM K could be more manageable and enjoyable.

Honestly, both IIM Kozhikode and IIM Calcutta are prestigious, but if you are going purely by brand value and legacy, IIM Calcutta has the edge. It is one of the oldest IIMs (part of the holy trinity: ABC), and the alumni network is massive across industries. Especially if you are targeting finance roles, IIM C is often considered the best in the country, the "finance campus" for a reason.

I was confused between the two too, and after attending both of their webinars, I realized that it depends on your post-MBA goals. For consulting, both are excellent, but Calcutta has a slight advantage due to its stronger alumni ties in top-tier firms. If you are planning to go international or into hardcore finance like IB or PE, IIM Calcutta may open more doors.
