ISB vs IIM Ahmedabad: Which MBA is really better?

Body

Both ISB PGPX and IIM Ahmedabad are elite programs with strong global recognition, excellent placement records, and impressive recruiter networks in consulting, finance, and tech. ISB offers a slightly higher average salary for experienced professionals.

However, in my view, IIM Ahmedabad still has the edge for MBA aspirants aiming for long-term career growth in India and globally. Here’s why:

  • Alumni Strength: IIMA’s alumni network is unparalleled in India, giving you long-term career mentorship and opportunities across sectors.

  • Brand & Reputation: Globally, IIMA is consistently ranked among the top 30 business schools by FT, and in India, it remains the most sought-after for recruiters.

  • Program Rigor: The two-year PGP program exposes students to case studies, live projects, and leadership labs that build a more holistic skill set.

  • Recruitment Diversity: While ISB is strong in senior-level placements, IIMA sees a wider range of recruiters including consulting giants like McKinsey, BCG, Deloitte, Accenture, and top tech firms like Amazon and Microsoft.

  • Long-term ROI: Even though ISB offers higher short-term salary, the long-term network and brand impact of IIMA often outweigh initial pay differences for MBA grads.

It’s my view that while both are excellent, IIM Ahmedabad continues to offer a more rounded, career-defining MBA experience.

ISB might be shorter, but the quality of international faculty and corporate connections gives you a huge edge if you’re aiming for global consulting or tech roles.

Totally agree! IIMA’s alumni network really opens doors that a short-term program like ISB might not. The network effect is real when you’re thinking 10 years down the line.
