SPJIMR? Is that Tier 2? Why This Perception Still Exists
Seen and heard this way too often mention SPJIMR and people get confused or assume it’s just another private college
The IIM tag has built such a strong recall that anything outside it needs explanation, even if it’s genuinely top-tier
In reality, institutes like SPJIMR compete closely with most IIMs in terms of outcomes, but perception hasn’t fully caught up yet, it’s less about quality, more about branding and visibility at this point

Funny how people worship tags but ignore the data. SPJIMR’s Medicine/Specialization-based admissions mean the cohort quality is often higher than IIMs that rely solely on CAT percentiles. If I’m getting the same 30+ LPA package in Mumbai with better industry exposure, why would I care about a 'Government of India' tag? The ROI at SPJIMR is objectively better than most IIMs

the 'IIM' tag is a global currency. You can’t compare a private institute in Mumbai to the legacy of IIM Ahmedabad or Bangalore. Even if the placements are similar, the government backing and the sheer scale of the alumni network across IAS/IPS and Global CEOs are incomparable. SPJIMR is great, but it’s not an IIM. Period.
