Body
Preparing for SNAP is very different from CAT. While CAT is about depth and reasoning, SNAP is about speed + smart attempts. With 60 questions in 60 minutes, you have just 1 minute per question and trust me, every second matters.
1. Know the Exam First
-
Sections: General English (15 Q), Quant + DI (20 Q), Analytical & Logical Reasoning (25 Q)
-
Time: 60 minutes - no sectional timings.
-
Marking scheme: +1 for correct, -0.25 for wrong.
You can’t attempt everything. Learn to pick battles wisely.
2. Build Speed, Not Just Accuracy
SNAP isn’t about solving the toughest problems it’s about solving the right problems quickly.
-
Practice mental math & approximations.
-
Keep short formulas at your fingertips (percentages, ratios, averages, P&L).
-
Solve 20-25 questions in timed drills (set a stopwatch).
3. Section-Wise Prep Strategy
English (15 Q):
-
Focus on vocabulary, idioms, grammar rules.
-
Practice sentence correction + para jumbles.
-
RCs are short (150-200 words) practice reading editorials & answering direct questions quickly.
Quant & DI (20 Q):
-
Revise basics from NCERT (Class 8-10 level math is enough).
-
Prioritize Arithmetic (Percentages, Time-Speed-Distance, Averages, P&L).
-
For DI - practice interpreting charts, tables, graphs fast.
Reasoning (25 Q):
-
Heaviest section. Practice puzzles, coding-decoding, series, blood relations, clocks, arrangements.
-
Use previous SNAP papers to spot repeating question types.
-
Do 20-min speed drills: how many LR questions can you solve in that window?
4. Mock Tests Are Key
-
Take SNAP-specific mocks (pattern is very different from CAT).
-
Analyze not just accuracy, but time per question.
-
Build a “skip instinct”: if stuck for 45 secs, move on.
5. Resources You Can Use
-
Books:
-
Quantitative Aptitude for Competitive Exams - R.S. Aggarwal (for basics) and Nishit Sinha
-
Logical Reasoning - Arun Sharma
-
Word Power Made Easy - Norman Lewis (for vocab)
- Verbal ability - Nishit K. Sinha
-
-
Websites/Apps:
-
Cracku, Oliveboard, IMS, Gradeup for SNAP mocks & sectional tests and catking for dialy updates and motivation boost
-
Editorials from The Hindu / Indian Express for fast RC prep
-
-
Previous Year SNAP Papers (available free on multiple prep sites) - best to get a real sense of speed-based solving.
SNAP is less about “who knows more” and more about “who solves smartly.”
Keep your basics strong, practice under time pressure, and focus on speed with accuracy.
If CAT is a marathon, SNAP is a 60-minute sprint.
