The IIM Sirmaur Reality Check: 100+ Unplaced & The "Fake SIP" Scandal

Body

While most B-school broc*ures are filled with 100% placement claims, a recent viral post from an IIM Sirmaur Alumna (MBA '25) has pulled back the curtain on a much grimmer reality. From administrative failures to the "fake company" SIP debacle, the post highlights how even an Institute of National Importance can leave its students stranded.

Key Bombshells from the Report:

  • The Unplaced Count: Out of a batch of 310, over 100 students were unplaced at the time of convocation (April 2025).

  • The Tourism Slump: The specialized Travel & Tourism batch (50 students) suffered significantly as the flagship IAB (Industry Advisory Board) event the primary source of senior placements was cancelled for this batch.

  • The SIP Debacle: Allegations of the Placement Committee floating a "fake company" for Summer Internships, which led to students being barred from applying to other firms for two months.

  • CGPA vs. Reality: Despite a solid 6.5 CGPA, students struggled to find "fair chances," contradicting the administration's claims.

"The 2025 batch across all baby IIMs has been hit, but 100+ unplaced at Sirmaur is a systemic failure. If the administration is blaming students with 4.75 CGPA while someone with a 6.5 is struggling, they are just gaslighting the batch to protect the brand's perception

For an IIM to cancel the IAB event for the Tourism batch their USPis a massive breach of trust. To any current students reading this: your CGPA is a tool, but clearly, the 'IIM' tag isn't a magic wand anymore. Networking outside the campus portal is now a survival skill, not an option

This is exactly why we need audited placement reports, not just 'draft' summaries. If 1/3rd of an IIM batch is walking across the stage without an offer letter, we need to stop calling these '100% placement' institutes. The bit about the fake company for SIPs is actually terrifying that's two months of a career window gone
