"Is a 'gap year' after graduation an automatic '2' on the 10-point scale? I spent mine prepping for UPSC. Does that count as 'wasted' time, or can I leverage it?"

Having work experience is always better than being a fresh graduate for most IIMs. It gives you context during case study discussions. You’re already ahead of 60% of the applicant pool

7/10. It’s not wasted! If you can articulate what you learned about macroeconomics or governance during your UPSC prep, it shows a level of maturity that most 21-year-olds don't have. Just make sure you can answer the 'Why MBA?' question honestly

5/10. With a 'non-diverse' profile (Engineer, IT), you'll need a 99.5+ percentile in CAT to have a comfortable shot at the top tier. Your work experience needs to highlight impact, not just technical tasks, to stand out.

B.Sc Physics (2024), 8.2 CGPA. 1 Year work experience in Public Works Department. CAT aspirant. Any chance for Top 3 IIMs, or should I focus on MDI/SPJIMR? Rate me

6.5/10. Your GPA is solid, but the 'Public Works' experience is unique that's your USP! If you can frame your story around infrastructure management, you move to an 8/10. Focus on your SOP; it needs to be flawless
