How to Get Into JBIMS: Understanding the Maharashtra CET Pattern and Preparation Strategy

Body

For many MBA aspirants in Maharashtra, Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS) is the ultimate goal. Often called the CEO factory of India, JBIMS has consistently built a reputation for strong industry connections, excellent placements, and a powerful alumni network.

One of the biggest reasons students aim for JBIMS is the return on investment. The MBA program costs roughly ₹6 lakh, while the average placement package often crosses ₹27 lakh, making it one of the most attractive MBA options in the country.

Every year, over 1.2 lakh students appear for the Maharashtra MBA entrance exam, commonly known as MAH MBA CET

What many students do not realize is that cracking MAH CET requires a very different strategy compared to exams like Common Admission Test.

Understanding the MAH MBA CET Paper Pattern

The MAH CET exam typically contains 200 questions distributed across four major sections:

  • Logical Reasoning – 75 questions

  • Abstract / Analytical Reasoning – 25 questions

  • Quantitative Aptitude + Data Interpretation – 50 questions

  • Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension – 50 questions

At first glance, many aspirants assume that quantitative aptitude will dominate the exam, and they spend most of their preparation time practicing mathematics.

This is where many candidates make a strategic mistake.

Why Focusing Only on Quant Can Hurt Your MBA MAH CET Score

Out of the 50 questions in the quantitative section, the distribution is usually:

  • 25 questions from Quantitative Aptitude

  • 25 questions from Data Interpretation

For students who have already prepared for exams like CAT or other management entrance tests, a large part of these quant concepts is already familiar. In many cases, such students can comfortably solve around 14-16 questions in quant without intensive additional preparation.

Even if someone spends months trying to master every quant topic, the improvement may only move the score from 15 correct answers to around 18-20. The remaining questions are often tricky or time-consuming.

In other words, the score improvement from extra quant preparation is limited.

The Real Scoring Opportunity in MAH MBA CET

The real scoring opportunity lies in the reasoning sections.

When you combine Logical Reasoning (75 questions) and Abstract Reasoning (25 questions), you get 100 questions purely based on reasoning ability.

This means half the entire exam depends on reasoning skills, not mathematics.

Students who invest time in:

  • pattern recognition

  • visual reasoning

  • logical arrangements

  • puzzles and analytical thinking

often see a much larger improvement in their overall CET score.

A Smarter Preparation Strategy for MAH MBA CET

If your goal is to secure admission into JBIMS or other top Maharashtra MBA colleges, your preparation should reflect the actual structure of the exam.

1. Maintain basic quant familiarity
Do not ignore quantitative aptitude completely. Ensure that fundamental topics and calculation speed are comfortable.

2. Prioritize logical reasoning practice
Since this section carries the highest weightage, consistent practice of puzzle sets, arrangements, and logical patterns is essential.

3. Strengthen abstract reasoning
Many students underestimate visual reasoning questions. However, mastering pattern recognition can quickly add extra marks to your score.

4. Work on verbal ability and reading comprehension
The verbal section often becomes the differentiator for students competing for top ranks.

MAH MBA CET It is not primarily a quant-heavy exam. Instead, it is an exam that rewards logical thinking, pattern recognition, and verbal clarity

As a MAH MBA CET aspirant, this actually helped me rethink my preparation. I was over focusing on quant too, but realizing how much weight reasoning carries especially if you’re targeting Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies makes me want to shift more practice toward LR and abstract reasoning.

Do you recommend any good resources or practice sets specifically for abstract and logical reasoning for CET?
