IIM Indore PGP 2026-28 Waitlist Movement: Expectations & Analysis

Body

IIM Indore historically records some of the highest waitlist movements among the "BLACKI" (top-tier) IIMs. With results for the 2026-28 batch released on May 7, 2026, candidates are now looking at their waitlist numbers to gauge conversion chances.

The high movement at Planet-I is largely driven by itsย
large batch size (around 450+ for PGP) and the overlap of candidates who also hold offers from IIM A, B, C, or L.

ย

Key Drivers for 2026 Movement

  • Selection Criteria Shift: For the 2026-28 batch, IIM Indore significantly adjusted its weightage. Class 10th weightage dropped (39% to 10%), while Class 12th (25%) and CAT sectional performance (totaling 55 marks in shortlisting) saw an increase. This shift may attract a slightly different candidate profile, potentially affecting the "overlap" with other top IIMs.

  • Multiple Waitlist Rounds: IIM Indore is known for its patience, often releasing between 17 to 22 rounds of waitlist updates. Movement typically starts in late May and can stretch until the end of July.

  • The "Buffer" Effect: Candidates often hold seats at IIM Indore while waiting for movement in IIM Bangalore or Calcutta. As those lists move, Indore sees a "domino effect" of withdrawals.

  • Alternative Options: Strong competition from non-IIM institutes like FMS Delhi, XLRI, and SPJIMR continues to be a major factor in vacating seats at Indore.

What Should Waitlisted Candidates Do?

  1. Monitor Your Portal: Movement happens fast. Check student.iimidr.ac.in daily.

  2. Be Ready with Fees: The seat acceptance fee (typically around โ‚น50,000) is usually required within a very tight window (24โ€“48 hours).

  3. Check Your Spam: Official offer communications are sent via email; ensure IIM Indore's domain is whitelisted.

  4. Keep Backups Active: While Indore's movement is generous, never stop pursuing other solid admits until you have the final offer letter in hand.

Waitlist No. 810 (General): "Historical data shows movement reaching 880+ in previous years (2022-24). While 802 was the 2025 cutoff, don't lose hope it depends heavily on IIM K and MDI's acceptance rates this year

A waitlist number under 600 is generally considered a "safe" convert, while numbers between 600-750 are in the "high probability" zone.
