During a CAP interview (Panel 7) with Prof. Jaganath G (IIM Jammu), one particular part of the interaction stood out and stayed even after the interview ended.
Toward the end of the interview, he made a remark directed at candidates from science backgrounds: “You all science background people should go ahead and do MSc or something. Why jump into MBA? I don’t think you should do it.”
A little later in the conversation, he added something that surprised the candidate even more: “Even if you got selected, I don’t think you would be able to handle the program.”
Being told that even if selected, one wouldn’t be able to handle the program felt unusual to hear during an evaluation process. It came across less like an assessment based on the interview itself and more like a conclusion that had already been formed about the candidate’s capability.
does anyone here from science backgrounds encountered similar perspectives during MBA interviews? Or was this just a one-off experience?

I’ve seen similar 'Science vs. MBA' skepticism in past CAP rounds. For anyone coming from a B.Sc or Research background: Did you face the 'Why not an MSc?' question as a genuine curiosity or as a hurdle? It feels like some panels are leaning hard into the 'academic fit' argument this cycle to see who actually knows what an MBA entails."

This sounds like a textbook 'stress interview' meant to test your conviction. By questioning your fundamental capability, they are looking to see if you'll get defensive or if you can calmly explain how your scientific analytical skills actually provide a unique edge in data-driven management. It’s a harsh tactic, but very common in Panel 7 transcripts this year
