Post-12th Grade: Why feeling "lost" is actually the most normal part of your career.

Body

Looking back, does anyone else remember the absolute silence that followed the 12th-grade boards?

For years, life was a structured script: Nursery to 10th was about basics, 10th to 12th was about 'The Boards.' You followed the path, hit the milestones, and life felt predictable. But then—poof. That certificate comes in, and suddenly you’re standing in the middle of a massive, undefined 'Now What?'

Most of us jumped into the first degree that sounded sensible or followed the herd because we didn't have the tools to navigate the ambiguity. Now, sitting in the thick of career choices, MBA prep, or the corporate grind, I realize that the confusion wasn't a failure—it was just the first time we had to actually own our decisions.

I’m curious to hear from the 'older' crowd here (or those who have been through the ringer):

Looking back at your 18-year-old self, what is the one thing you wish you knew about 'adulting' that nobody told you? Was the pressure of choosing a path actually worth the anxiety, or do you wish you’d just explored more?"

I learned the hard way that rejection is just practice. I used to think a bad interview or a wrong choice was the end of the world. Now, I see them as just another data point. Don't be afraid to fail early; it's the best tuition you'll ever pay

i was so obsessed with the 'next' milestone12th, graduation, MBA, placement that I never actually enjoyed the process. You realize eventually that nobody cares about your rank or the speed of your career, only the value you bring to the table

"Honestly, I wish I knew that your first degree isn't a life sentence. We all acted like choosing a B.Com or B.Tech was a 'final' decision, but in the real world, pivoting is the only constant. I spent two years stressing about a career path I don’t even touch anymore

As noted by Uber’s leadership, high token consumption does not automatically equal high-value consumer features. Businesses are realizing that pouring money into AI API calls is unsustainable without a direct link to revenue or efficiency.
