First and foremost, your GMAT does not define who you are especially if you’re applying to ISB.
I’ve seen countless applicants stress for months over a GMAT score that isn’t 690+ or 700+, delaying their applications unnecessarily. Questions like:
-
“My 10th grade is 78%. Should I even apply?”
-
“My quant percentile is low. Am I out of the race?”
…keep popping up.
Let me be very clear: your numbers are only a part of your profile they are not the whole story.
Schools like the Indian School of Business aren’t looking to admit a classroom full of robots. They are building future consultants, founders, and leaders people who have actually done meaningful things with their lives.
Yes, numbers help you get taken seriously. But it’s your story that gets you selected.
For context, here’s a rough sense of how ISB weighs application parameters (based on my experience working with students and insights from AdCom conversations take this with a pinch of salt):
-
Academic scores & test scores (GMAT/GRE, academics): Moderate weight enough to demonstrate competence.
-
Work experience & achievements: High weight what you’ve accomplished and the impact you’ve made.
-
Extracurriculars & leadership: Considerable weight shows initiative and versatility.
-
Essays & recommendations: Crucial they convey your story, vision, and personality.
The takeaway? Stop overthinking numbers. Start crafting your story. Your experiences, achievements, and vision matter far more than a single percentile.
