A Game-Changer for MBA Aspirants: Proposed IIM Admission Reforms

Body

While the proposed changes aim to simplify the journey for students, they have sparked a debate regarding institutional autonomy:

  • The Pro-Student View: A unified system would prevent "result hiatuses" (like the delays seen with IIM Mumbai this year) and significantly reduce the financial burden of blocking high fees across multiple institutes.

  • The Institutional Concern: Some IIMs are wary that a standardized, "one-size-fits-all" counseling process could erode their ability to select candidates based on specific course criteria, high standards, and niche institutional requirements. Furthermore, experts point out that while a single process is convenient, it might mathematically reduce the number of interview call opportunities for high-performing candidates compared to the current multi-channel system

Letโ€™s see if they actually follow through. Every year they talk about 'coordination,' but the IIMs usually prioritize their autonomy over a smooth candidate experience. Crossing my fingers for 2027

Iโ€™m conflicted. Yes, the chaos of individual counseling is a headache, but if they unify the process, will we lose the chance to get 10-12 interview calls? Sometimes the 'chaos' is what gives us options.

Finally! The amount of money students waste blocking seats in 3-4 IIMs because thereโ€™s no clear refund policy is criminal. A flat โ‚น1,000 deduction is the only fair way forward.
