CATKing Real CAT Mock 3 - Discussion

Body

Hey Everyone,

I just attempted Real CAT Mock 3 and honestly, it was a rough ride.
Here’s a quick breakdown of what happened:

-> VARC – Felt intellectually heavy. Only 5 easy questions out of 24? RC 3 (on Neoliberalism) and RC 1 were particularly abstract and time-consuming. I found myself second-guessing a lot of inferences.

-> DILR – This was brutal. Except the Bar Graph and Companies sets, everything else felt like a trap. I wasted time on Team Formation and Network Pipes and regret not skipping them earlier.

-> Quant – Just 3 easy questions?! Even Arithmetic, which is usually my strength, was unexpectedly tricky. I ended up spending too much time on moderate ones and couldn’t complete the section properly.

Looking back, I know my strategy wasn’t tight enough. I tried to go linear instead of picking my battles, and it cost me.

I’d love to hear from others:

How did your Mock 3 go?

How do you approach dense RCs and abstract topics?

What’s your method for selecting DILR sets quickly?

How do you stay composed when Quant throws a curveball?

Let’s discuss and help each other out! 🙌
Drop your strategies, learnings, or even your own struggles. We’re all in this together 💪

DILR was slightly better than last mock IMO. Started with the Bar Graph and Companies sets – decent accuracy there. Attempted Team Formation out of curiosity... and got slapped 🥲. Lesson learnt: Don’t experiment under pressure!

VARC was a bloodbath for me 😭. RC 3 (neoliberalism one) totally drained my brain. Tried solving it mid-way through the section and ended up losing rhythm. Going to avoid dense RCs till the end from now on.

Just 8 attempts in DILR. Not even kidding. Spent 17 mins on Pipes-Network and got 0 😡. Will start doing quick 3-min scans of all sets before locking into any from next mock.

Tip for VARC: I now always start with Verbal Ability first (Odd One Out and Summary). It boosts my confidence before diving into RCs. RC 1 and 3 in this mock were time guzzlers—I skipped them till the end.

But dont get disappointed, this is just the start there is still time for CAT Exam, so you can definitely work on your weaknesses and improve in the next mock.

Honestly, I felt the same with RC 3. The neoliberalism passage drained me. I read it twice and still couldn’t confidently answer more than one question. I think I need to work on abstract comprehension.
