How Many Mocks to Give for Each OMET?

Body

Mocks are the backbone of MBA entrance prep. But while CAT has a clear โ€œtake 30 to 40 mocksโ€ narrative, OMETs (XAT, IIFT, NMAT, SNAP, MICAT, TISS, etc.) leave students confused. Since each exam is unique in pattern, difficulty, and timing, the number of mocks needed also differs.

XAT

  • Mocks Needed: 12 to 15

  • Why: Decision Making is unique, and the paper is long (3+ hours). You need enough mocks to build stamina + DM strategy.

  • Tip: Mix full length mocks with sectional DM practice.

IIFT

  • Mocks Needed: 8 to 10

  • Why: Differential marking + GK + calculation heavy DI.

  • Tip: Practice with IIFT past papers; 8 to 10 mocks are enough if youโ€™re already giving CAT level mocks.

NMAT

  • Mocks Needed: 10 to 12

  • Why: Sectional time limits + adaptive nature (though mocks are not adaptive, simulation helps).

  • Tip: Take mocks in 28 minute section timing mode; speed practice is key.

SNAP

  • Mocks Needed: 8 to 10

  • Why: Only 60 minutes, speed focused.

  • Tip: High frequency short mocks. Even mini mocks (30 Qs in 30 mins) help.

MICAT

  • Mocks Needed: 4 to 6

  • Why: Psychometric + Descriptive writing cannot be โ€œmockedโ€ too much. Focus is on essay + GK + reasoning.

  • Tip: Add descriptive practice alongside a few mocks.

TISSNET (now integrated with CUET-PG)

  • Mocks Needed: 4 to 6

  • Why: Straightforward exam with heavy GK weightage.

  • Tip: Focus more on GK prep; mocks help only for time management.

Overall Strategy

  • CAT mocks (30 to 40) already cover your core Quant/VARC/LRDI practice.

  • For OMETs, add 8 to 15 exam specific mocks depending on the test.

  • Prioritize exam familiarity & time management rather than just the count.

Final Word

Donโ€™t blindly chase numbers. For OMETs, the goal isnโ€™t giving 30+ mocks itโ€™s giving just enough mocks to master the unique features of each exam. Focus on analysis after every mock, because thatโ€™s where the real learning happens.
