Founding & Early Years
Following recommendations in the early 1970s to expand management education, the Government of Karnataka offered 105 acres of land and financial backing to establish IIMB. The IIMB Society was registered on 27 March 1972, and the institute officially launched on 28 October 1973, inaugurated by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Under leadership like Dr. K.R.S. Murthy (1991–97), IIMB revamped its curriculum aligning with global standards launched executive programs with entities like MIT Sloan, and became the first Indian B-school to get campus internet in 1995.
