MBA Placement Risks 2026: Which Colleges Have the Highest Number of Unplaced Students?

Body

While every B-school promotes its "Highest CTC" and "100% Placement" claims, the ground reality of the 2024-26 batch tells a different story. In a cautious hiring market, several premier institutes are struggling to clear their entire batch. Here is the raw breakdown of unplaced students across the top tiers.

The "Zero-Deficit" Elite (100% Placed)

A few institutes have maintained their "Fortress" status, ensuring every student found a role despite the slowdown:

  • IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Calcutta, and IIM Mumbai: Reported 0 unplaced students.

  • SPJIMR and XLRI: Continued their streak of excellence with 0 unplaced candidates.

  • IIT Bombay (SJMSOM): Proved the strength of tech-management with a perfect record.

The Marginal Gap (Tier 1 & 1.5)

Even the giants saw minor friction this year. Most of these "unplaced" numbers are often due to students being highly selective or seeking niche roles.

  • IIM Bangalore & IIM Indore: Minimal outliers with ~3-5 students yet to sign.

  • MDI Gurgaon: An impressive recovery, bringing the count down to ~3.

  • FMS Delhi: A slight surprise with 11 students unplaced, likely due to high salary expectations in a cooling consulting market.

The Mid-Tier Struggle (Tier 2 & New IIMs)

The real impact of the 2026 slowdown is visible in the larger batches and the newer IIMs.

  • IIM Vishakapatnam & IIM Kashipur: Facing significant headwinds with 110 and 90-100 unplaced students, respectively.

  • IMT Ghaziabad: With a large batch size, 200 students are currently navigating the rolling placement process.

  • GLIM Gurgaon: Reporting 100 unplaced out of a batch of 300, highlighting the pressure on one-year programs.

110 unplaced at IIM Vishakapatnam and ~100 at IIM Kashipur is a massive red flag for aspirants. It shows that the 'IIM' tag isn't a magic wand you still need a strong market and a manageable batch size

Seeing 0 unplaced at IIM Ahmedabad, Calcutta, and Mumbai in this market is the ultimate proof of brand power. When the market cools down, recruiters stick to the safest bets.
