    compute department totals (percentage of 4600)

    • HR = 11% of 4600 = 0.11×4600=5060.11\times4600=506

    • Accounts = 8% of 4600 = 0.08×4600=3680.08\times4600=368

    • Production = 15% of 4600 = 0.15×4600=6900.15\times4600=690

    • IT = 26% of 4600 = 0.26×4600=11960.26\times4600=1196

    • Marketing = 22% of 4600 = 0.22×4600=10120.22\times4600=1012

    • Merchandising = 18% of 4600 = 0.18×4600=8280.18\times4600=828

    i) Number of women in the accounts department

    Accounts total = 368. Ratio men:women = 3:1 -- total parts = 4.
    Women = 1/41/4 of 368 = 368÷4=92368 \div 4 = 92.

    Answer (i): 92 women.

    ii) Total employees in IT and HR together

    IT = 1196, HR = 506 -- total = 1196+506=17021196 + 506 = 1702.

    Answer (ii): 1702 employees.

    iii) Ratio of total men to total women in all departments

    Find men and women in each dept (using department totals and ratios):

    • HR (1:1) -- men = 253, women = 253.

    • Accounts (3:1) -- men = 276, women = 92.

    • Production (3:2) -- men = 414, women = 276.

    • IT (1:3) -- men = 299, women = 897.

    • Marketing (1:1) -- men = 506, women = 506.

    • Merchandising (5:1) -- men = 690, women = 138.

    Sum them:

    • Total men =

    • Total women =

    Ratio 2438:2162 .

    Answer (iii): 53:4753:47 (men : women).

    iv) Women in merchandising as percent of total employees

    Women in merchandising = 138. Percent = (138/4600)×100=3%(138/4600)\times100 = 3\%.

    Answer (iv): 3% of the organisation.

    v) Ratio of men in production to men in marketing

    Men in production = 414; men in marketing = 506. Ratio 414:506414:506.

    Simplify: divide both by 46 -- 9:119:11.

    Answer (v): 9:119:11.
