The Consulting Powerhouses: Ranking India’s Elite Strategy Hubs

Body

Management consulting remains the most coveted sector in Indian B-schools, primarily due to the high-stakes problem-solving, global exposure, and industry-leading compensation it offers. This year's data reveals a fascinating shift in how firms are distributing their offers across the "Top 10" circuit.

The "High-Volume" Leaders (38% – 41%): IIM Bangalore and SPJIMR Mumbai have emerged as the absolute frontrunners, with roughly 4 out of every 10 students entering the consulting domain. IIMB’s proximity to tech-hub ecosystems and SPJIMR’s unique pedagogical focus on social sensitivity combined with strategy make them prime targets for firms like McKinsey, BCG, and Bain. IIM Ahmedabad follows closely at 39%, maintaining its legacy as the primary source for "Global Strategy" hires.

The Strategic Mid-Tier (28% – 34%): ISB Hyderabad continues to dominate in absolute numbers due to its massive cohort size, even with a 34% placement rate. IIM Kozhikode has shown significant growth, now sitting at 32%, signaling its rising reputation among the Big 4 and boutique strategy firms. FMS Delhi, while traditionally a marketing and finance stronghold, leverages its low-fee high-package ROI to attract consulting firms looking for high-IQ, value-driven candidates, resulting in 28% of the batch placed.

The Specialist Crossover (16% – 26%): XLRI Jamshedpur shows that its Business Management (BM) program is a force to be reckoned with, capturing 26% of consulting offers despite its dual-specialization reputation with HR. JBIMS Mumbai, though appearing lower at 16%, remains highly selective, with consulting roles primarily focused on BFSI and Financial Advisory due to its deep ties with the Mumbai financial district.

IIM Kozhikode at 32% is a huge jump from five years ago. They’ve clearly done the legwork to build relationships with firms that used to only visit the 'ABC' campuses

JBIMS, which is famous as the 'CEO Factory' for Finance, is seeing 16% of its batch move into Consulting. The shift toward strategy roles across all top schools is real

For those looking for the solution to the ROI puzzle: FMS Delhi might only have 28% consulting offers, but when you consider the fee structure, it’s arguably the most efficient way to enter a Tier-1 firm

IM Bangalore has technically taken the top spot this year with 41% of the batch moving into strategy roles. It’s becoming the go-to campus for the MBB trio
