The FMS Placement Debate: Between Transparency and Misinformation

Body

People here are straight up assuming that if someone isn’t included in the final placement number, they’re automatically unplaced, when it’s probably not that black and white.

IIM Ahmedabad’s 2023-25 PGP + PGPBA batch reportedly had around 7 students opting out of the final placement process/count. So yeah, batch size not perfectly matching placement numbers is not something unique to FMS, but that said if any institute is loudly pushing 100% placements without clearly explaining exclusions, people have every right to question it. Transparency should be there.

But some posts here are acting like they’ve uncovered some giant scam overnight, when in reality none of us fully know what those numbers actually include or exclude. Fair criticism makes sense, jumping to conclusions doesn’t.

Even if some students opt out, the '100% placement' claim is technically misleading if it doesn't account for the full batch size.

That is fair, and that is where the criticism should be directed. Question the marketing terminology rather than assuming every missing person is a reflection of failure.

If the numbers don't add up, the student body deserves an explanation from the placement committee

Transparency is a two-way street. Colleges owe clarity to the aspirants who look at these stats, but it's important that we demand that data without resorting to alarmist narratives.

It feels like people just want to see these top institutes fall because of the high expectations they set

Exactly. There is a fine line between holding an institution accountable for their reporting standards and just wanting to tear down their reputation based on speculation.
