Gender Diversity at Top MBA Colleges

Body

using "Diversity Points" in their selection criteria to ensure that the next generation of leaders reflects a more balanced workforce.

1. The "Glass Ceiling" Breakers (Kozhikode & Rohtak)

  • IIM Kozhikode: Often called the "Pioneer of Diversity," IIMK made history with 59% female representation in its flagship PGP batch. They were the first to cross the 50% mark, proving that diversity doesn't come at the cost of academic excellence.

  • IIM Rohtak: Maintaining a massive 65% female majority, Rohtak has become the go-to campus for women aspirants, largely due to its selection model that heavily weights academic consistency and gender diversity.

2. The "Balanced" Middle (IIM Bangalore & SPJIMR)

  • IIM Bangalore: IIMB has seen a significant jump, moving from 30% to 40% female representation in 2024-26. This shift is notable because Bangalore is traditionally known for its "quant-heavy" engineering intake.

  • SPJIMR Mumbai: Despite a slight dip during the pandemic years, SPJIMR has stabilized at 40%, keeping its promise of maintaining a socially balanced cohort.

3. The "Old Guard" (IIM Ahmedabad & JBIMS)

  • IIM Ahmedabad: While it has improved, IIM A still sits at 25% female representation. The school remains heavily skewed toward engineering candidates (61%), who traditionally have a higher male ratio in the CAT applicant pool.

  • JBIMS Mumbai: Known as the "CEO Factory," JBIMS remains one of the most male-dominated top-tier campuses with 75% males. Its selection through the MAH MBA CET, which lacks the "Diversity Point" system used by IIMs, contributes to this ratio.

Important Fact: Recruiters are actually demanding this. Top firms like HUL, P&G, and Google have strict diversity hiring targets. If a B-school doesn't have enough women, those companies will spend less time on that campus.

It’s not about 'penalizing' you; it’s about fixing a broken system. For decades, B-schools were 90% male engineers. Having 40-50% women makes the classroom discussions way more realistic to the actual corporate world.

59% women at IIM Kozhikode is insane! I get that diversity is important, but as a male engineer with a 99.8 percentile, I feel like I'm fighting an uphill battle against 'Diversity Points' even before I step into the interview room
