What types of questions are asked in the NMAT examination?

Body

Hey everybody! I am planning to give the NMAT exam this year, can anyone tell me what kind of questions are usually asked? Like, what is the pattern and difficulty level in each section?

The thing about NMAT is that it is an adaptive test. So, the level of the next question depends on how well you answered the previous one. That makes it slightly tricky because the difficulty can increase if you do well. I noticed the first few questions are crucial if you mess those up, the system assumes your level is lower and you might lose out on scoring high.

In Quantitative Skills, the questions are mostly from Arithmetic, Algebra, and Numbers. You don’t really get complex geometry or higher level modern math like in CAT. But there is a time crunch, you get only around 52 minutes for 36 questions. So even if the difficulty is moderate, the challenge is speed and accuracy.

Logical Reasoning in NMAT is quite manageable. There are puzzles, arrangements, coding and decoding, series, blood relations, etc. But unlike CAT, where reasoning can be unpredictable, NMAT sticks to standard formats. I practiced a lot of previous year questions and mock tests, the trick is to get used to the format and answer quickly without overthinking.

So the NMAT exam has 3 sections, Language Skills, Quantitative Skills, and Logical Reasoning. Each section is timed separately, which is actually nice. The questions are not very tough compared to CAT, but you have to be super fast. For example, Language Skills will have a lot of vocabulary based questions, grammar, and RCs but the RCs are short and direct.

NMAT has no negative marking, so I attempted all the questions. But I focused on maximizing accuracy in the first few minutes of each section to maintain a good difficulty level. Time management is key especially for Quant and LR. Also, do not underestimate vocabulary! I had words I had never seen before, so regular vocab practice definitely helps.
