How long did it take you to complete the DILR section during your CAT? What time limit and how many questions should I aim for?

In mock analysis, you need to oversee 4 things.
      1. What did you get right in a mock?

      2. Why and how did you get it right?

      3. What did you get wrong in a mock?

      4. How and why did you get it wrong? What you could have done to get it right?

So try answering these 4 questions in a CAT mock exam and keep improving.

Great to hear that you want to crack CAT examination in your first attempt by giving CAT 2025.

I would suggest that you begin following a coaching program to clarify your concepts. See what types of questions are likely to come in the CAT. This might take 2 months for you to go through all the content, including DILR.

Post that, focus on learning by testing. And then analyze your mock tests and keep improving iteratively.

I hope you crack the CAT in flying colors and do well.

There are 2 types of procedures to it.

      1. If you are in a learning phase and still sometimes find it difficult to crack the logic behind a DILR set in a mock test, solve 5 sets every day for 6 days in a week.

      2. Once you find yourself confident enough to at least understand the approach of solving a set as soon as you look at it, solve sets in the form of sectional tests for practice, 3 sectionals a week. Then to test yourself, you should only be focusing on giving full-length mocks.

The most important questions are the Previous Year Questions of CAT exam. These are the questions that testify the mindset of the actual paper setter.

So once you are prepared with the learning resources you are following, make sure to solve all previous year questions of CAT DILR for the past 10 years (2015 to 2024).

This is exactly what I followed for my DILR preparation. And also, the analysis of the set is important so that you can understand what were you thinking and what were you supposed to think.

How did you approach difficult DILR in your actual CAT exam? It is one of my fears to come across a set I would not be able to solve.

Hi Shibil. So what I believe is, a set in DILR requires 3 things from you. A focused reading, the ability to identify the concrete points (the points that provide you a solid information to begin with). And lastly, find the relatable points to build up your solution.

I approached every set of DILR in this manner. If it is a pure DI set, then you can solve it straightforward. And in case of an LR or a combined set, I considered the aforementioned approach.

So, to solve the sets in mock tests, focus on solving 3 to 4 sets in the 40 minutes of stipulated time.

Also, solving every set is not important. What is more important is, judging how much you can solve in those 40 minutes. So if you find a set you can't solve, be quick to skip it in 2 to 2.5 mins so that you waste the least of your time. I also did not solve all the sets to get 99.71. Giving your best as per the paper is the most important to you.

I hope this turns out to be helpful.

All the best and keep shining.

Greetings, everyone, welcome to the session.

You are advised to freely ask questions related to CAT, be it mock strategies, conceptual tricks, but be specific to DILR.

Hoping to interact with you and also learn from your experiences.
