how much AI should an MBA Student use?

Body

When I think about how I did assignments during my undergrad compared to now in my MBA, the difference feels huge.

Back then, if we had to make a report or presentation, we spent hours researching, reading online, organizing the content, and fixing grammar ourselves. There was no quick solution. Now, students can just upload the assignment brief into ChatGPT and get a full draft in minutes with structure, grammar, and even slides ready.

AI definitely saves time and makes research easier, but I also feel it is creating a learning gap. During projects, I see many students relying on AI for everything instead of thinking critically or practicing skills like writing and presenting.

Should students use AI only as a support tool for research, or is this simply the natural way education is changing?

    I understand your point.

AI has certainly made tasks faster and easier, but relying on it for everything can hinder our learning. It’s most effective as a helper, such as when it generates ideas, polishes writing, or accelerates research. However, the real thinking, analysis, and presentation should still be our responsibility. This approach gives us the benefits of efficiency while also building genuine skills.

I say use AI smartly, idea generation, checking flow, simplifying complex reports. But do your own research too. Otherwise, when you hit interviews and they grill you, you won’t be able to defend your own “work.”

The danger is overdependence. I noticed some classmates can’t even write a proper 2-page note without AI now. That’s scary because in real jobs, you won’t always have the luxury to prompt perfectly. Sometimes you need to think on the spot.

Tbh, I don’t see a huge problem with using AI heavily. Most of what we do in MBA is applied knowledge anyway. If AI gets me past repetitive tasks faster, I can spend more time networking, case prep, and internships, which actually matter more.

I feel like MBA students should treat AI the way consultants treat interns: useful for first drafts and legwork, but the final insights and client-ready version has to come from you. Otherwise, you’re just copying without learning.

I rely on AI for grammar and formatting, but never for full answers. Professors are catching on, and honestly, in group projects, the ones who only use AI look lost during presentations. That’s when it shows.

Natural evolution of education, IMO. Back in the day, calculators replaced manual math. Now AI is replacing manual research/writing. What matters is how creatively and strategically you can apply AI. That’s the skill that’s going to be in demand.

I think AI should be like Google on steroids. You use it to save time on grunt work, summaries, references, quick outlines. But if you outsource your actual thinking, you’re shortchanging yourself. The recruiters don’t hire ChatGPT, they hire you.

Honestly, I use AI for brainstorming and structuring, but I never submit what it gives me directly. It’s like having a study buddy who throws ideas fast. The final product should still be mine, otherwise what’s the point of paying lakhs for an MBA?
