      Hi KPS,

Avoid to use calculator even while you're practicing and solving questions for your own. Do go through the different shortcut concepts of Vedic maths. Lastly, try to have conceptual understanding and don't just remember formulas. Focusing on these things will definitely help you out improve on accuracy and speed in QA. I hope this helps you. All the best!

Is CAT QA similar to IIM QA to some extent?

      Hi Diya,

I believe there is a typo in your question, I'm assuming "IIM" as OMETs. To some extent, yes, CAT QA and omets QA both test core concepts like Arithmetic, Algebra, and Logical Reasoning. But CAT QA is generally more application-based and case-heavy, while omets focuses more on speed, accuracy, and time-bound problem solving. All the best!

Sir was arithmetic and basic geo and algebra enough to clear QA cutoffs? Or should I practice higher level problems as well.

      Hi Vijay,

I would suggest to currently focus on CAT/Omets right now, you'll be having sufficient time to prepare for GDPI but just be well versed with current affairs for now. All the best!

      HI Arijit,

Yes, although quants has been a comfort zone for me always but I followed LOD 2 books of CATKing to accelerate further. I gave CATKing real cat mocks, Cracku and a few of CL mocks last year. I hope this helps you, all the best!

      Hi Sumit,

Some companies do focus a lot on these and some may have a baseline but definitely a person gets good opportunites in a top bschool like IIFT Delhi.

      Hi Neha,

Being from a non-engineering background, I also faced a bit difficulty in such type of topics but I would just suggest to have your basics clear for each one of them, with an ability to solve atleast LOD - 1/1.5 questions. You can follow daily live lectures and practice from PYQs to get more clarity. Also, if you;ve a strong arithmetic and algebra then these won't matter a lot but make sure your basics are done. All the best!

Did you follow any structured plan for covering Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry,
and What was your approach to learning formulas and concepts without rote memorization?
How did you revise and retain formulas over time?

      Hi Sangharsha,

I just believe in conceptual understanding, so if you're strong with it then formulas are no more a burden to remember, Yes you've to revise a bit but focus on conceptual understanding, formula will follow the state of presence in your memory. Also, there are many questions which could be solve just by basic understanding so no need of them everytime. I hope this answers your query. All the best!

      Hi Rudra,

This is how I approached it from scratch:

      • I first built basics across all topics, don’t skip this even if you feel confident. Then followed this order: Arithmetic → Algebra → Geometry → Modern Maths → Miscellaneous. Arithmetic and Algebra are high-weightage, so I spent more time there.

      • I took one topic at a time, understood the theory well, and then solved questions slowly, even if a set took an hour. That struggle helped me fix the logic gaps.

      • If stuck, I’d try a few times before checking solutions. And when I did, I used only trusted sources or asked friends who explained the “why” behind the steps.

      • Later, I began solving others’ doubts, that really helped reinforce concepts.

      • Once I was confident with the basics, I started solving PYQs and taking mocks. Even if you’re not fully ready, attempting a few early gives a real sense of question types.

Be patient, logic improves with repeated exposure. Stay consistent and back yourself!
